We went to Kentucky Fried Chicken the other night to buy dinner and must say we were a little disappointed. It was $31 and change for a bucket with chicken, wedges and chicken fries. We also got two dinky little salads and some gravy.
We began to reminisce about being kids and getting this huge bucket filled with HUGE pieces of chicken and a big loaf of bread and an endless supply of salads and fries..
These days it seems to be hit and miss on whether or not it's too greasy to be even eaten on the rare occasions we eat the stuff. Maybe that's just because the grease didn't bug us when we were kids, I don't know but suspect that it's more like most fast food places now where quality and nutrition really aren't at the top of the priority list.
It used to be a huge amount of food and we would snack on cold chicken for days.
There wasn't enough to do that this time and we were barely full with a bit of a belly ache.
What happened to the sporks?
The colonel used to give you a plastic piece of cutlery that was 1/2 spoon, 1/2 fork.
Weren't those great?
My husband solved the dilemma to the Chunky soup commercial too when they'd yell 'Fork!' 'No! Spoon'. 'No! Fork.'
He'd holler at the tv, 'Somebody give 'em a bloody SPORK!'
And if you think about our landfill problems, isn't the spork a more consciencious route to take on the side of environmental friendliness? Instead of a plastic fork AND a plastic spoon being tossed into the landfill, a spork would take up less space.
Hmm, for that matter, the wooden pronged popsicle sticks might be in even better order these days. Remember getting those with french fries and gravy?
I can't get good fries and gravy in a cardboard box any more. I've given up.
We don't eat fast food much and now there's even less reason. We could've practically gone out with our two cubs and eaten in a decent family restaurant for that price.
