A Writer's Resume

If you want writing jobs, you'll need to apply. How do you show prospective employers that you can do a good job for them? Show them examples of your work and provide something that shows them that you are a pro. I've written a lot about writing for a living on my various blogs including the writer's blog and now also at Inspired Author. This link is to a recent article I wrote about getting a writing job when you don't have experience. It doesn't take long to build an online presence for yourself!

Writing Prompt, Getting Excited About Boredom

Writing Prompt:

Describe something really boring in great detail. Of course this isn’t going to be the most fun writing prompt ever but sometimes we need to go back to basics in terms of writing and figure out how to write something that isn’t fun. It could be detail about how to wash the dishes in great detail or how to sort the laundry by colour. After you’ve written this boring set of steps, write about what you would rather have done today. The anticipation of the more fun writing assignment could help you feel empowered and motivated to get through the boring assignment more quickly. Don’t you write with more vim and vigor when you’re excited?

Writing Prompt, Money

Writing Prompt:
Write today about what you would do if you won the lottery. Write it from two perspectives such as if you were a selfless philanthropic type and write it from the standpoint of a hedonistic, greedy person as well. Dream big and consider yourself filthy rich. Would you pave your bathroom in gold? Would you give away vacation to strangers? Would you throw a party in the streets of Calcutta and feed everyone the most lavish meal they have ever set eyes on? What would you do with a limitless amount of money?

Today's Writing Prompt. What Ticks You Off?

If you want to create emotion in your writing, get your juices flowing by writing about something that makes you angry. If you need to create an argument scene, what better way to get in the right frame of mind than to write about your pet peeve.

It'll help you find great adjectives although you may have to backspace to rid your piece of expletives but it'll help your emotions drive your writing and make it real and filled with emotion.

Here are a few categories you can use to find your pet peeves:
-Politics
-Religion
-Irresponsible Parenting
-Moral issues

Have fun!

Today's Writing Prompt For Those Having Problems With Their Creativity

Today, write about your favourite meal. Don't just write about the main course, write about every aspect of it. It's a multi course meal with appetizers, fancy wine, palate cleansers, linen napkins and you're all dressed up. There's dessert, your favourite soup and music playing in the background. Desdcribe every morsel of it. Talk about teh colour of the food, the way it smells and the way it feels as it touches your tongue.

Not your speed?

Ok, write about your favourite sports bar or pub meal. There's paper napkins (or your sleeve if you will...) and you can leave your table manners at the door. Dig in! Let the juice or sauce drip down your chin and have a blast! Write about the game you're watching on the big screen or the dart game you're entrenched in and convinced you'll win at!

Cheers,
Dana
