Apple Seeds Are Full of
Cyanide?

Huh?

When I was a kid I remember swallowing an apple seed once and then asking my mother if I should swallow some dirt (since we "All eat a pound of dirt
before we die")
She obviously rolled her eyes at me but a little part of me pictured a tree growing in my belly.

I recently read a warning that apple seeds contain a cyanide compound and should not be eaten.
I almost freaked out and started to google it right away.

It is infact true yet the statement creates a bit more fear than neccesary.

Don't doubt the phrase that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, it truly is a miracle food with so many awesome qualities (apple pectin, apple cider vinegar)and it would take a large quantity of the seeds to do the same damage that cyanide does.
Not to mention, it would take crushing the seeds as well because the black coating around the seed is a protective barrier and if you swallow a seed hole, it simply will go
through your intestinal tract as roughage.
I'm relieved by this because everyone in my home saves our apple core for the dog.
As soon as he sees you eating an apple, he waits patiently for his share.
He loves them and we all know they're full of seeds and he's so far alright (he's been doing this most of his ten years at sometimes 3 or 4 cores in a sitting when we've all eaten an apple together)

According to a respected urban myth research website, this ingredient is quite highly present in peach, cherry and apricot pits to a more dangerous degree but we all know how difficult it would be to eat one of those seeds!

How do you like them apples?
