Vacationing with Friends Can Make Them Foes:

Two people close to me once took a holiday together and have never ever spoken since.

They were close friends and planned for months totally excited about the holiday that they'd planned together.
I picked one of them up at the airport after the trip and they weren't even walking together, both had their noses high in the air--furious with one another.

I took a road trip holiday with my inlaws when my husband and I first got engaged.
It forever changed the face of the relationship with them and although we salvaged things and moved on, it really impacted things for a while after we returned.

Vacationing with someone is essentially moving in with them for a period of time and not only do you discover eachother's worst habits during that time but you're both trying to get the most for your time and money and feeling like you should have everything the way you want it.

Afterall, it's your holiday and you've scrimped and saved to have it!

One of you wants to go to the beach, one to the mall.

One likes to stay in the nightclubs until dawn, the other likes to sit by the pool with a book.

One wants to eat Thai food, the other wants to eat fried chicken and the buffet doesn't have both!

It can be a difficult battle.

I now would opt for quiet solitude on a holiday after all I've seen with people vacationing together.
Maybe if you insist on vacationing with friends or relatives, up front you should set out all the ground rules for the holiday.
Even then, it could still get ugly.
It's your vacation, of course you want it YOUR way :)
My advice?
Go it alone!
Hopefully you're compatible with your spouse on holiday. Save hanging with friends and relatives for the back yard!
