Deet Melted The Nail Polish Offa My Toes!!
Ofcourse we're all petrified of West Nile Virus
and no one likes getting bitten by those nasty
'lil mosquitos so last weekend, when spending
the weekend at a cottage in the midst of dense
woods, I decided to be extra cautious and wear
a repellant with 30% Deet.
Deet is something the insects apparently hate.
I know Deet can be nasty stuff for it to ward
off those bugs but because I swell up real bad
and itch like crazy ( and some refer to
me as their repellant for bugs because
the nasty biting insects seem to prefer me to
anyone else I'm in a crowd with.) I decided
Deet was the lesser of two evils.
Well...upon closer examination the day after
wearing that spray we realized that myself and
another girl who both doused ourselves in the
stuff had our nailpolish almost entirely
stripped off our freshly pedicured toes!
Scary stuff!
If that chemical can melt away polish that
otherwise requires a heavy duty remover
designed specifically for it...
That scares me.
Be aware of what you're putting on your kids!
I know Deet isn't recommended for infants and
small children shouldn't have a high
concentration of it but the fact that something
is approved by the FDA to pour all over my skin
but that can also melt off acrylic nailpolish
leaves me feeling a bit uncomfortable!
NO-- I wouldn't rather be bitten by bugs but I
wonder what the long term implications of
something being poured onto my very pourous
skin would be when that something can melt
something as heavy duty as nail polish!
If in that situation again, I won't be wearing
sandals again and will mostly be spraying my
clothes!
